The Ideal Card

First-mover NFC digital business card. Founded 2015 at Inkgility, launched 2018. Zero to category leader in three months.

Case study

In 2015 I conceived a hardware plus software product that put a person's professional profile behind an NFC card. Category did not exist. By 2018 the founding team launched into the US market. I owned category creation, positioning, GTM, sales, and paid acquisition. We went from zero to category leader in about three months, held top branded search, and set the marketing template competitors later copied.

The honest read: we were early and correct enough to compound the lead, and we did not. Complacency in year two, insufficient focus, and a slow move on TikTok let copycats pass us on visibility. Category leadership decays unless you feed it.

Brand identity

Placeholder for the identity system: the mark, the wordmark, the color system, the type system, and the application rules that shipped across product and marketing. The visual language was designed to communicate premium and category-defining without the AI-native design defaults that were already crowding the space.

Physical product

Placeholder for the physical card design: material, finish, NFC coil integration, thickness spec, and the printing process choices. Product design carried the brand into the hand.

Website + product

Placeholder for the Shopify-based eCommerce site, the hosted profile experience the card links to, and the platform decisions that let the product ship on a small founder team.

Content + collateral

Placeholder for the sales collateral, the founder deck, the early customer stories, and the internal enablement materials.

Marketing + social

Placeholder for the Google Ads campaigns (sustained around $15K per month at ~4x ROAS), the LinkedIn organic motion, the founder social presence, and the early PR wins.
